NASHVILLE - Sharon Frazier is joining Nashville-based Single Music as its new Chief Operating Officer. Frazier is a veteran of multiple startups, however, most recently serving as the Senior Vice-President and Director of Mortgage Technology at Citizens. There she led a multi-year, award-winning innovation team.

In her role as COO Frazier will be responsible for curating talent, operational, and financial performance in support of building the company’s next generation platform and exceptional, modern operation.

Single is also introducing Gabriel Apodaca as the Business Development Manager after previously spending nearly 20 years as an agent. Apodaca, who remains in Los Angeles, has worked with artists such as 3OH!3, THE CULT, PRAYERS, Big Freedia, and more.

In his role, Apodaca will be responsible for developing relationships with new clients in the music industry and beyond, aiming to understand their ever-changing needs as modern creators and showcase how Single’s toolset can revolutionize their direct-to-consumer strategies.

Single also recently announced an expansion of its video streaming and monetization technology. This creator toolkit had previously been available as a white-glove service for musicians such as Def Leppard, Korn, Needtobreathe, Young the Giant, and The Smashing Pumpkins. Now, through an easy onboarding process, all 1.7 million Shopify store owners will have the same access to ticketed premiers, paid rentals, and digital/physical merchandise bundling. The company has also been named a finalist for the Nashville Entrepreneur Center’s NEXT Awards, to be presented later this month.

With Single’s centralized interface for direct-to-consumer digital sales, monetized video content, and chart reporting, the same technology that has powered live virtual concerts for major music artists is now available as a completely white-labeled experience to all creators through their 1.7 million Shopify storefronts. MORE» More»

Imagine if anyone had access to the same video streaming technology used by big names across the music industry like Def Leppard, Korn, Needtobreathe, Young the Giant, and The Smashing Pumpkins. Not only has Single Music imagined it, they now are providing that technology to the masses, including every band named above.

With Single’s centralized interface for direct-to-consumer digital sales, monetized video content, and chart reporting, the same technology that has powered live virtual concerts for major music artists is now available as a completely white-labeled experience to all creators through their 1.7 million Shopify storefronts.

Single has released its high-caliber streaming tech to the greater Shopify public in response to the growing interest in livestreaming for retail of all kinds. “It’s clear that this tech can make waves way beyond music,” said Tommy Stalknecht, CEO and Co-Founder of Single. “Every business is leading with content today, and comedians, podcasters, influencers, any business trying to reach consumers will need livestreaming in their toolkit.”

Single’s video streaming technology has helped generate nearly a million tickets and $23 million in revenue for artists through the most difficult year in music, a year with no live shows and severely cut off revenue streams. Those numbers came from just 450 shows, leading Single to explore what could happen if all 1.7 million Shopify creators had access to the same content-monetizing technology. Opening up this technology--which includes interactive chat features, merchandise sales and ticket bundling, and the ability to sell past events as rentals--expands the world of possibilities for content creators.

With their Shopify storefront, creators of all kinds, including comedians, influencers, athletes and authors, can premiere events, offer rental access to content, and bundle access to livestream or rental events with physical merchandise, all with the same technology major bands have been using for their own virtual events.

While one might expect the technology that has powered major livestream events, such as Def Leppard’s recent All I’ve Got Is a Photograph live conversation, to be intimidating and complex, the technology is approachable and straight-forward. Whether users are setting up a live video event or an on-demand rental, sign-up is a simple process. Users select either livestream or rental, establish customizable aspects like merchandise sales and event details, test the stream, set up sales details, and publish. That’s it.

“This technology isn’t new for us. We’ve been offering it to major artists all along. Now we’re excited to see what all Shopify creators and businesses can gain from it,” Stalknecht said.

And while this technology is available and useful to any creator in any line of business, Single is a strong competitor in the video streaming industry, matching up pound-for-pound against branded platforms such as Mandolin, Veeps, and Moment House.

“There’s a gut reaction for musicians to use 3rd party platforms because that's what they know,” Stalknecht said. However, Single believes there is a better way. “By integrating video content directly into an artist's store they get the best of both worlds. Their brand is front-and-center, they own the platform they are sending their fans to, and there's a much higher likelihood of ancillary sales of high margin items - i.e. merch. This is why we are invisible by design - they deserve the credit (and revenue) from the art they create, not us.”

With artists previously noting Black Friday-level merchandise sales, it’s clear artists are reaping the benefits of Single’s capabilities and pricing model.

“During 2020, when Covid was at its height, we were actively looking at ways to keep revenue coming for our clients and the company,” said Bruce Fitzhugh, VP Artist Services at Manhead. “Single Music got in early to build out Live Streaming on Shopify. This was a great way to drive fan traffic directly to the artist’s store, allowing us to keep that direct connection between the artist and fan. Single Music’s team has been there to guide the artist and merch company the entire way.”

Concert discovery service Songkick also saw success with Single’s video streaming service. “We are very happy we partnered with Single Music to bring livestream concerts to our users,” said Senior Product Manager John Kilpatrick. “The team has been brilliant to work with, providing us with 100% uptime on livestreams and very responsive support.”

With big companies and names on board, Single Music feels ready to provide quality service to all Shopify storefronts. “Our goal has always been to provide technology that works for artists, to provide what makes sense,” Stalknecht said. “And now we’re pushing it out to everyone.”

Single Music, a centralized interface for direct-to-consumer digital music sales, monetized video content, and chart reporting, has rolled out its newest feature: Fan Insights Data Dashboard. This free service allows artists and labels using Shopify a deeper look into who their superfans are and how to connect with them to form more authentic, meaningful relationships.

The Fan Insights feature does the hard work for artists by compiling data directly from artists’ own Shopify stores. By connecting the dots and doing the leg work for artists, the artists are empowered to take the data breakdowns to inform their marketing decisions. It’s an efficient cycle that puts more money in the pockets of artists: they sell directly to fans, thus earning more revenue, they collect more direct-to-consumer data, and they can use that data to inform their sales. Fan Insights helps bring the process full circle for artists.

Data available for artists include revenue and location data for specific top fans, a world sales heat map, top cities and regions for store and fan data, purchase activity trends, sales-by-type breakdowns, and top merchandise items. For example, if an artist was curious which merch items and sizes were most popular after their album release in different cities in Tennessee, they could see that. If they want to know where to plan their next tour stops, the data here could drive that decision. An artist strategizing a release drop could identify superfans--those most likely to support them and spread the word--and plan an exclusive early release specifically for them. Artists are in the driver’s seat with this data and the road is open.

When it comes to data-driven marketing decisions, Single Music CEO Tommy Stalknecht believes artists need to mean business. “Artists should treat e-commerce as seriously as department stores do,” he said. “For example, Target isn’t selling tank tops in September like they do earlier in the year, so maybe artists shouldn’t either. Data that updates in real time gives artists the power to make those decisions.”

Data use expands beyond e-commerce, of course, and works for anyone. “Artists at any level can make smarter marketing decisions,” Stalknecht said. “They can see how far people may travel to see them. Since they can’t hit everyone on every tour, they can identify markets they’re missing in person and treat those cities to a livestream event before, during, or after tour, for example.”

And if an artist does treat fans to a livestream event? Well, Single Music can help with that, too. The platform gives artists the opportunity to host monetized video content alongside digital music and merchandise sales.

“At the end of the day, the goal is to help artists connect with their fans and build real, lasting relationships,” Stalknecht said. “These are the people who have supported artists even during the hardest times for the industry. It benefits everyone to know who those people are and how to reach them.”

Def Leppard is presenting a premium virtual event, powered by Single Music, called All I’ve Got Is a Photograph, on June 25th at 4pm EDT. The event, which includes a conversation with Ross Halfin and a Q&A session, will take place on their Leppard Vault site.

Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott and Phil Collen will chat with Halfin to discuss the photographs he’s taken of the band over the years, followed by a Q&A with questions submitted by fans on Leppard Vault. Digital event tickets and limited edition event bundles are on sale now at LeppardVault.com, and new Def Leppard Vault merchandise will be on sale during the event.

Leppard Vault, the band’s one-stop website, is powered by Single’s toolkit for digital music sales, monetized video content, chart reporting, and fan data via the artist’s Shopify store. Single has allowed artists to better connect with fans and keep every aspect of their music and marketing all in one place.

Def Leppard is only the latest successful monetized premium video event using a Single Music-powered site. Smashing Pumpkins’ Gish-Aversary event, honoring their 30 year-old debut studio album Gish, included a live listening party and Q&A session with Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin. A portion of the money raised was to be donated to PAWS, a no-kill animal shelter in Chicago.

“The genius of these events is the engagement artists encourage with their fans,” said Tommy Stalknecht, CEO of Single Music. “We’ve seen it time and time again--livestreams and virtual events are simply a piece of the puzzle. Fans want to bundle their experience with something tangible, like merchandise, too.”

Fans can purchase Def Leppard bundles now, and exclusive items will be available during the event to create a more meaningful experience. Plus, fans get to see and listen to Elliot, Collen, and Halfin in a relaxed, more intimate atmosphere than if they were on a big stage.

“It’s great to see the creative uses for our service artists are coming up with outside of streamed concerts,” said Stalknecht. “All I’ve Got is a Photograph is a fantastic way for Def Leppard to connect with their fans by showing and telling never-before-heard stories through 30 years of photography. After seeing the success of the Gish-Aversary event, I have no doubt Def Leppard and their fans will have a great time.”
